Rediscovering Our Roots

We are living in exciting times when God is awakening believers around the world to their Biblical Hebraic roots. The Institute for Hebraic-Christian Studies (IHCS) is a pioneering ministry serving those who are searching for their spiritual roots and want to study and learn authentic pre-Constantine Biblical Christianity. We are one of the few organizations in the world offering courses that help believers understand the historical and cultural Hebraic-Christian connection in the Bible.

Founded by Dr. Richard and Peggy Booker, IHCS provides a unique teaching, learning and research opportunity for students to study the Biblical Hebraic Roots of Christianity and the role of Israel in the prophetic Scriptures. These courses help the student discover the rich depths of the Bible that is often missed when reading the Scriptures through Western eyes.

The courses emphasize the Biblical Hebraic cultural understanding of the Bible rather than a Western cultural interpretation. They are biblically based, theologically balanced, focused on Jesus, and practical in their presentation.

Course Descriptions

A description of available courses is given below. The courses provide a comprehensive “student-friendly” environment of learning. The orientation course is six lessons. The other courses are twelve lessons and are organized for student interaction.

Students desiring credit may earn a Diploma in Hebraic-Christian Studies by completing the core courses with accompanying work assignments. Students desiring a degree may transfer credit for their course work to an IHCS affiliated educational organization.

The core courses are available by correspondence for those who live outside an area where they are taught by a local instructor. Elective courses will be available as they are taught. Please contact IHCS for more information.

ORIENTATION COURSE

Y The Root and Branches

This is an introductory course to students who are beginning their study of the Hebraic roots of Christianity and want a basic orientation before taking more in-depth courses. The student will gain an overview of why Christians should learn their Hebraic roots, the covenants, the Sabbath, the Feasts, anti-Semitism, and the rebirth of the State of Israel.

CORE COURSES

Y JR100 - Discovering Jesus in the Covenants and Rituals

Students learn how the Bible tells one complete story of God’s provision of a blood covenant including the covenant ritual, the covenant with Abraham, in the tabernacle, the High Priest, and the sacrifices. Students learn how the covenant and rituals point to Jesus and how believers can apply this knowledge to everyday life. This is the most foundation, core subject in the Bible.

Y JR200 - Discovering Jesus in the Sabbaths and Feasts

This course helps students understand why and how God gave the Sabbaths and Feasts as pictures of the Messiah including Jesus in the Sabbath, Passover, Unleavened Bread, FirstFruits, Pentecost, Trumpets, Atonement, Tabernacles, Purim, and Hanukkah. Students learn how to internalize the spiritual realities symbolized by the Feasts. In addition, students discover the prophetic calendar as revealed in the Feasts, how the Feasts have been restored in history through God’s prophetic seasons, and where we are today in God’s times and seasons.

Y JR 300 - Israel and the Nations in History and Prophecy

The purpose of this course is to help students understand God’s plan for Israel and the nations in history and prophecy. Students gain an overview of the history of Israel and the Jewish people, the Christian debt to the Jews and the prophecies of the Messiah in the Hebrew Scriptures in light of their fulfillment in Jesus. We cannot understand current events without this information.

Y JR400 - Jesus and the First Century Church

This course helps students discover the “Jewishness” of Jesus and the early church. Students learn the Hebraic background of the teachings of Jesus and Paul, misconceptions concerning Law and grace, the relationship Jesus had to the Pharisees, the role of Pilate and the Sadducees in the crucifixion of Jesus, and much more.

Y JR500 - Judaism and Christianity: Abraham to the Holocaust

The purpose of this course is to help students understand the history of the Jewish people from the call of Abraham, through the First Testament, between the Testaments, the New Testament, the Roman era, and Christian-Jewish history from Constantine through the Holocaust. This is God’s redemptive history of His people, both Jews and Christians.

Y JR600 - Judaism and Christianity: Faith, Customs, and Traditions

This course will help the student understand basic Jewish beliefs and practices and how they relate to Christianity and the Messiah. Students discover how Biblical Judaism and Biblical Christianity are the same while learning how they differ based on ancient traditions and practices that are important to both faiths today.

ELECTIVE COURSES

Y BYG - Behold Your God: Experiencing Worship and Intimacy with God

The purpose of this course is to teach the student how to draw closer to God and experience worship and intimacy with God. This is done by studying the nature and character of the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob – the God of Israel. The result is a sense of awe and joy in the Biblical revelation of the greatness and goodness of God. Students are encouraged to seek the presence of God and discover the personal meaning and practical application of each attribute of God to their lives.

Y WTV - Within the Veil: Reaching God’s Heart in Prayer

The purpose of this course is to help students discover God’s wondrous plans and purposes for their lives and how to pray them from heaven to earth. This is done by explaining the Biblical concept of kavanah, which helps the student learn how to pray focused prayers with specific prayer objectives.

Students discover ancient Jewish prayers that Jesus prayed, as well as principles and patterns of prayer including core elements of prayer, praying with confidence, praying with persistence, identifying hindrances to answered prayer, praying with intercession, and much more.

Y ISU Islam Unveiled: Islam, Christianity and Israel in the Last Days

Islam is on the move. It is no longer the desert religion of the Middle East. The modern revival of Islam, fueled by unrestrained nationalistic fervor, has become the most dangerous force in the world threatening Judeo-Christian civilization. In this course, students learn about the life of Mohammed, his revelations, teachings and beliefs as written in the Koran, the differences between Islam and Christianity, Middle East myths, and the relationship between Islam, Christianity and Israel in the last days.

How to order Correspondence Courses

The six core courses are available by correspondence for those who live outside the area where there are on-site classes. Those who want to earn a Diploma in Hebraic-Christian Studies may do so by answering the questions at the end of each lesson and submitting their answers electronically through email as a Word Document. Students who are not interested in earning the diploma need not submit their answers.

Students who submit their answers are assigned a graduate assistant who will review the answers, record the student’s progress and send comments back to the students. Once students have completed all the requirements for graduation, they will be awarded a Diploma in Hebraic-Christian Studies.

The courses are available in two formats, standard audio tape with syllabus or a CD with MP3 audio files and pdf files for the computer (PC or MAC).

Standard Manual and Audio Tape Format

In the standard format, the students receives, for each course, a professional syllabus (3-ring binder) of approximately 150 pages divided into twelve sections, plus twelve audio cassette tapes of the lectures. The cost per course in the standard format is $135.00 plus $15.00 for shipping and handling for a total of $150.00.
